If you're a fan of warm, gooey cinnamon rolls, you'll love our vegan twist on this classic dessert. Whether you're a strict vegan or simply looking for a dairy-free option, these cinnamon rolls will not disappoint. With a rich, buttery flavor, they are the perfect way to start your morning or indulge in a sweet treat.

Making vegan cinnamon rolls can seem intimidating, but we have a foolproof recipe that will leave you with soft, fluffy rolls that melt in your mouth. Our recipe uses vegan butter and plant-based milk to achieve the same delicious taste and texture as traditional cinnamon rolls. The key to making them perfectly is to allow the dough to rise to its full potential, giving the rolls their light and airy texture.

The filling for these cinnamon rolls is just as important as the dough. A mixture of cinnamon, brown sugar, and a little bit of nutmeg creates a warm and spicy flavor that will have you reaching for more. We also like to add in a handful of chopped walnuts or pecans for a little crunch, but feel free to leave them out if you prefer.

To top off these delectable rolls, we like to drizzle them with a simple caramel sauce made with vegan butter, brown sugar, and a splash of plant-based milk. The combination of the warm, spicy rolls and the smooth, sweet caramel sauce creates a truly irresistible dessert that you won't be able to resist.

While these vegan cinnamon rolls do take some time to prepare, they are definitely worth the wait. They make the perfect breakfast treat or dessert and are sure to impress anyone who tries them. So don't be afraid to treat yourself! Gather your ingredients, preheat your oven, and let's get started.

Shopping List:

  • 1/2 cup cane sugar

  • 1 cup plant-based milk

  • Active dry yeast

  • 5 TBSP vegan butter, softened

  • 2 vegan eggs (egg replacer)

  • 1 tsp sea salt

  • 3 1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour

Caramel Sauce:

  • 7 TBSP vegan butter

  • 1/4 cup plant-based milk

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 1/2 cup brown sugar

  • Filling:

    • 6 TBSP vegan butter, softened

    • 1 cup brown sugar

    • 2 TBSP cinnamon

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine 1/2 cup cane sugar and 1 cup warm plant-based milk. Stir until sugar dissolves.

  2. Sprinkle in active dry yeast and let it sit for 5 minutes (as per the yeast package instructions).

  3. Add 2 vegan eggs, 5 TBSP softened vegan butter, 1 tsp sea salt, and 1/2 cup flour to the bowl. Whisk until well combined.

  4. Gradually add another 3 cups of flour (1/2 cup at a time), kneading the dough on a lightly floured surface until a smooth ball forms (approx. 3/4 minute).

  5. In a separate bowl, add 2 TBSP oil. Place the dough ball into the bowl, coating all sides with the oil.

  6. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and place it in a warm, dark area (such as the oven or microwave) for 2 hours.

  7. In a medium pan, make the caramel sauce by combining 7 TBSP vegan butter, 1 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup plant-based milk, and 2 tsp vanilla extract over medium-low heat. Cook until the sugar dissolves and the caramel begins to thicken, then remove from heat and pour into the baking pan for the cinnamon rolls.

  8. After 2 hours, the dough should have doubled in size. Lightly flour a surface and roll out the dough into a rectangle.

  9. Spread 6 TBSP softened vegan butter over the dough, leaving 1 inch at the bottom unbuttered for sealing.

  10. In a small bowl, mix 1 cup brown sugar and 2 TBSP cinnamon for the filling. Spread evenly over the butter.

  11. Roll up the dough tightly, tucking and tightening to prevent expansion. Pinch the ends to seal securely.

  12. Cut into 12 rolls and place on top of the caramel sauce in the pan.

  13. Bake at 375 F for 30-40 minutes, or until golden brown. Brush with more butter when finished to keep them soft.

  14. To serve, place a large baking sheet on top of the pan and flip it over. Separate the rolls and enjoy.

Tip: Use a piece of thread to cut the cinnamon rolls into neat circles!
